If you have a domain that registered on Route 53 service (either from a new registration domain or transfer domain registration to route 53), AWS will configure the domain to renew automatically.
For example, i have domain latcoding.com that transferred to route 53, see Auto-renew column, it’s On.

And see expiration date column, the domain will expire on March 28, 2025, and i have got a notification to my email one month before expire, in February.

It said that the domain latcoding.com scheduled to automatically renew on 2025-02-21. And the price is $14 USD for this renewal. If you don’t want to renew the domain, you can disable automatic renewal before 2025-02-21, instruction here.
So for this case, i don’t make an action just ignore this notification and the domain will be automatically renewed.
And after several days, on 2025-02-22 i get a notification to my email again: Automatic renewal of latcoding.com succeeded.

Good, the latcoding.com has successfully renewed.
And if you go back to route 53, on Registered domains page you see Expiration date is now updated to March 28, 2026.

And if you see on billing and cost management page, you will get the detail about the renewal domain cost.

It’s $14 USD and billed in February (not March).
